Lawrencetown

Lawrencetown’s main distinction is its beautiful elms which, in the summer, form a natural shelter over the main road, Highway One. The oldest part of the village is the center of town.

The people are mainly descendents of New England planter families who came to Nova Scotia in 1760 from the New England States.

Every year at the Lawrencetown Exhibition Grounds, the Annapolis Valley Exhibition is held, which is typically a very large gathering.

The town was first settled in 1760 and named after Nova Scotia governor Charles Lawrence.

In 2010 Lawrencetown was nominated as one of the top 12 towns for Kraft Hockeyville, representing Eastern Canada in the wildcard category. On march 27th 2010 it was revealed on CBC Hockey Night In Canada that they were voted into the top five towns.

As of November 2011, the Village has become the First in Canada to be certified by the Canadian Wildlife Federation as a Certified Backyard Habitat.
